On 6 October, Anthropic released Claude for Google Workspace in beta. You open the add-on from the Extensions menu in Google Docs, Sheets and Slides. From there, Claude can summarise and rewrite text, untangle formulas, or create and revise slides in a presentation.
The default mode shows what Claude plans to change and waits for your approval. Edits are recorded under your name in Google's version history, so you can review and undo them. The extension only sees the file that is open unless you choose to turn on other connectors.
Access is more limited than the headline might suggest. The beta requires a Claude Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise plan. Your Google account must also be allowed to install apps from the Workspace Marketplace; at work, an administrator may need to approve or install it. Firefox is not supported yet, and the sidebar must stay open while Claude works.
This is not a separate new office suite, but an extra working layer inside the file you already use. Start with a copy and one clearly defined change. That makes it easy to compare the result with the original before you let the AI do more.
