On 6 October, Google launched AI Edge Foresight, an experimental meeting notes app for Mac. It captures audio from your microphone and computer, creates a transcript, and can enrich your short notes with details from the conversation. You can also search notes and local files or ask questions about them.

What is unusual is where the work happens. Google says the AI models run locally and the app works without an internet connection. That can be useful when meeting material should not be sent to a cloud service. Local processing does not, however, replace consent from the people being recorded.

Foresight is free and needs no cloud subscription, but it is still experimental. It is available only for Mac and is optimised for computers with Apple silicon. Google has not shown that transcripts or summaries will always be correct either.

A sensible first test is therefore a five-minute, non-sensitive conversation. Compare the transcript with what was actually said, and check names, decisions and next steps carefully before sharing the notes.
