On 25 September, Microsoft introduced a new Copilot with Home, Code and Autopilot.

Home will bring together regular chat and Cowork, where a larger task can be delegated in several steps. Microsoft also says Word, Excel and PowerPoint files can be created and edited directly in Copilot.

Code is designed to build simple apps and automations using everyday language. Autopilot goes further: it is meant to continue recurring work even when the user is away from the computer.

This is mainly a picture of what is coming, not a feature that everyone can open today. Home and Code will start rolling out through Microsoft’s Frontier test programme over the coming weeks. Autopilot enters a private preview at the end of September.

The practical direction is still clear: AI services want to become workspaces, not just chat boxes. What matters is how easy it is to see what the assistant has done, which information it may use and when a person needs to take over.
