On 16 September 2026, Mozilla and Mistral announced their partnership around Smart Window. It is an optional AI feature in Firefox that is still in beta, meaning a test version.

According to Mozilla, it can suggest groups for related tabs, summarise pages and help you find things you have read. Imagine collecting recipes for dinner and losing the page with that lovely soup. That is the kind of everyday clutter it is designed to help with.

Access is limited, though. The test version is available on computers in the US, Canada and France and requires a Mozilla account. Sweden is not among the available countries in the announcements. The UK and Germany are expected to follow later this year.

One important distinction: this is not entirely local AI. Questions and relevant browsing information can be sent through Mozilla to an AI provider. Mozilla says it does not keep conversations on its servers without your permission. The feature is optional and can be turned off.

The interesting part is getting help where you are already reading, while still choosing what the AI can access.
