On 1 September, Anthropic introduced two new versions of Claude. Fable 5.1 is being made broadly available, while Mythos 5.1 has more restricted access and additional safeguards around sensitive uses.

The names might sound like two different worlds, but according to the company they share the same underlying model. The differences include which tasks they are allowed to help with and under what conditions.

For an everyday user, what matters more is where the help actually leads. Does a difficult passage become easier to understand? Can you organise your notes more effectively? Can an initial idea become clearer?

Anthropic highlights improvements in working with text, knowledge and code. That is the company’s own description, and the benefits need to show up in real tasks. But the start of September gives us plenty of reasons to follow more than one AI developer.
